It’s easy to be confused by all the different terminology and acronyms surrounding addiction treatment programs. You’ve likely encountered terms like IOP, PHP, or OP. It can be difficult to figure out which one is right for you or a loved one. An option that offers both intensive treatment and flexibility is an IOP, or intensive outpatient program. This kind of program is designed for people who want to get help for substance use, while continuing to live at home and manage their daily responsibilities.
At My 5 Palms in Ormond Beach, Florida, we offer compassionate, expert-led IOP services that support your recovery and your commitments to the people you love. If you’re considering an addiction treatment program, we can help you explore your options and begin healing.
How does an intensive outpatient program work?
An intensive outpatient program offers a structured treatment approach for people with substance use disorders who don’t require 24/7 care. It’s more intensive than a standard outpatient program, but more flexible than residential (inpatient) treatment.
Our IOP in Florida provides a safe and therapeutic setting where you or your loved one can learn healthy coping skills, build community, and continue to progress in recovery while still living life. We understand that life doesn’t stop because you’re in treatment, and we want to honor your dedication to family, school, or work.
IOP services at My 5 Palms include:
- Three to five sessions per week, each lasting about three hours
- Daytime, evening, and weekend scheduling options
- Medication management as needed
- Individual therapy and group therapy sessions
- Family counseling to improve family bonds and communication
Most of our clients participate in the program for 30 to 60 days, depending on their progress. After completing an IOP, many people transition to our standard outpatient program for continued support, which allows for even greater flexibility and freedom of schedule.
Is intensive outpatient treatment right for me?
Not everyone needs inpatient care to eliminate substance use. Our intensive outpatient treatment could be for you if:
You’re transitioning from residential treatment
After completing a more intensive program, such as detox or inpatient rehab, IOP is typically a great next step. It helps you stay connected to professional support while building independence and confidence.
You’ve tried to quit before, but had difficulty maintaining your progress
Relapse often happens when people try to get sober on their own. With the support of our IOP team, you’ll have the accountability and community you need to help you avoid triggers or learn to handle them more effectively.
You need a flexible treatment schedule
Many people can’t step away from their daily responsibilities for more than a day or two. Whether you’re working, going to school, or caring for your family or elderly parents, an IOP allows you to tend to your life while still receiving the high-quality care to help you meet your substance-free goals.
You’re new to treatment
If you’re just starting your recovery journey, the idea of full-time inpatient care might feel intimidating and just not doable right now. We get it. An IOP can introduce you to professional support and help you understand what it would be like in an inpatient program.
What to expect during your IOP journey
From your first day with us, we work to understand your story and your goals. Getting to the core of your substance use disorder is paramount to making sure treatment is effective. We’ll do that by coordinating with our expert team and putting together a treatment plan that gets you the best outcome possible.
Intake and assessment
Every person begins with an intake. This includes an evaluation of your physical and mental health, history of substance use, and past treatment experiences. This step helps us get to know you and create a plan that’s just for you.
Evidence-based therapies
Your IOP care will include several types of therapy for a variety of benefits:
- Individual therapy: Meet one-on-one with a licensed therapist to uncover the root causes of your addiction, identify triggers, and build healthy coping skills.
- Group therapy: Share your experiences and learn from others who get it because they’re walking the same road. Group sessions help you build sober friendships, offer you encouragement when things are tough, and allow you to show up authentically.
- Family counseling: Addiction affects the person who takes the substance, but it also affects those they love. Family counseling helps heal rifts between family members and gives you guidance on things like rebuilding trust. Having the support of family can make all the difference in your recovery.
All therapy sessions at My 5 Palms are led by trained clinicians who specialize in substance use and mental health care.
